Week 44: March 27, 2017: Transferred!

(This Friday March 31 is Erin's Birthday! If you have time you can send her an email at: erin.greenwood@myldsmail.net or drop a card in the mail to the address at the end of her letter!)

Hola familia!

Transfers happened this week and I am now in the Great Kaw River ward!

So I am still in the same zone as before and still will be serving

super close to my last area but I get to speak Spanish now and Sister

Sly is my new companion! She is from Las Vegas and has only served in

Kaw River so still pretty new to the mission but we have a lot going

on in our area right now and I'm so excited for these upcoming

transfers!

Since transfers, we have been so busy. We have done service a few

times this weekend and have had some awesome lessons. Right now, we

are working with C and S, who are preparing to be baptized

on April 15. They are awesome and have very willingly made huge

changes in their lives to prepare for baptism. They have been living

the word of wisdom for the past almost week, which is a huge miracle!

The only thing left they have to do before their baptism is live the

law of chastity so we may be having a wedding this week, which will

be super exciting if it ends up happening! But either C has to

move out or they have to get married by this Friday so we'll see! Stay

tuned...

We have another family that we are working with right now that has

come to church every Sunday for the past few months and their only

hang up is that they dont feel like they know enough to be baptized so

we are working on that. But they are so sweet! We have an appointment

with them tonight so hopefully that goes well!

The women's session of conference was so good and S was able to

come with us. She loved it! I love how much they talked about service

and I thought it was really cool how they explained service as how you

find strength through Christ. I am so excited for this weekend when we

get to learn more!

The members in my new ward are super sweet! I have loved getting to

know them! Apparently they all loved the last sister that served here

though because they all seem pretty sad that she's gone...but things

are going well! We had an awesome talk with our Bishop after church

got out and got to talk about his hopes for this upcoming transfer.

I heard that you all had a great week though and I'm glad that you all

had tons of fun at the rodeos! I'm sure that you had tons of fun and

I'm glad you could all meet up in Houston to do it. You all look so

great too! Those were really cute boots and hat that you got for your

birthday mom! Those will be fun to have since you live in Texas.

Sorry that I dont have much more time to write but just know I love

and miss you all lots!!

Week 43: March 20, 2017: Time is flying by...

I feel like this week flew by and I cant remember much of what

happened honestly but I know that we met with lost of less actives and

members to try and gain member trust and it is going really well! We

met with a woman named Jillian and she is so sweet! She is 8.5 months

pregnant and invited us to come back and have dinner with her and her

non member husband tomorrow night! It was crazy cause when we first

walked in there, she had these 2 big and CRAZY dogs that were just

jumping all over us and I thought I was going to die for a second haha

but we survived and she loves missionaries! I don't know how open she

is to coming back to church yet and her husband isn't interested in

religion but we'll see how dinner goes tomorrow!

We met with this super old couple in our ward who I think are the

sweetest people ever and it went super well! They just started coming

back to church because her health is improving and so we just went to

get to know them and share a message. It is so sad cause she is in a

wheelchair and can barely talk and he has super bad kyphosis and so

its sweet seeing them together and how much he loves her. They're the

best.

We did some service for another less active who is literally a

hoarder!! We had to go through her garage with her to try and get the

Easter and summer stuff out from the back and the Christmas back where

the summer stuff was. It was rough. Plus we think she has hand foot

and mouth disease and has been sick for the past almost month so

hopefully we don't get that...

We have transfers this Thursday and I don't know what is going to

happen. I have been in this area for 3 transfers now so we'll see what

happens cause I think it could go either way. I find out on Tuesday

night so stay tuned for next week! Also, with transfers this week it

could cause problems if you send anything for my birthday because I

may or may not still be living in this apartment...

Thanks so much for all of the emails and pictures that you send me! I

love hearing about all of you and seeing pictures! I hope that you

have a great week together in Texas and that all the kids fly in

safely today. Have fun at the rodeo and I hope that you have a great

birthday mom! I'm sure that you are happy almost all of your kids will

be in town for that! I hope that everything goes well with it being

the anniversary of Heidi's death this week too. I love and miss her so

much and I'm sure it will be hard but i hope that you do something fun

to remember her too :) She was always a party and I know she would

want us to be happy and celebrate her life rather than mourn her

death. I know we will see her again :) I am so grateful for the gospel

and for the blessing and hope that gives us. I love and miss you all

lots! Have a great week :)

Week 42: March 13, 2017: The rains came down and the floods came up...

This week was so good! We saw so many miracles this week and we were

able to find so many new people to teach, which was a huge miracle!

On Monday night we were out in our area trying to contact potential

investigators and preach to anyone who will listen to us but it was

crazy because the wind was blowing at what felt like 90mph. But we

kept working and a little later, it started POURING and there was

lightening everywhere! Then came the hail. And the roads literally

started flooding! It was insane. At all happened so quick, we were in

the middle of talking to someone on their doorstep when the storm

started and got SOAKED. But it was so worth it. Well, because there

were tornado sirens going off, we couldn't really stay in our area any

longer but don't worry, the hot now sign was on at Krispy Kreme as we

were driving home and totally stopped to get some free donuts. We

figured that if we were going to die from a tornado, we wanted to die

happy haha..

On Tuesday we taught a mom and son that were super interested. We had

just tracked into them back around New Years but then nothing came

from it and we got a call this week saying that she wanted to meet

with us! The lesson went really well! We had dinner with a family in

our ward from Colombia and ate a ton of Colombian food that was all

super delicious. We got to finally use our Spanish a little bit too,

which was way nice! It's so frustrating trying to learn a new language

when you only get to speak it once in a blue moon but thats okay! Ill

take any chance i get.

We went on exchanges on Wednesday and that was good. I was with Sister

Costely in Olathe 1st ward and nobody was interested or even nice to

us but thats okay haha some days are better than others but it'll all

work out in the end.

We had zone conference on Thursday and that was really good! There was

a super good talk given by our zone leader on faith. We also talked a

lot about the joy of repentance. We did lots of role plays and played

a game to see if people in the zone have the 42 doctrinal point

scriptures memorized. We had pasta for lunch and it was like the 5th

time this week...its awful. But i think sis Davies got food poisoning

or something cause she has been sick ever since lunch at zone

training.

We taught paul on Friday and had dinner with him at this place called

the T Loft. It was so good! We taught the Restoration again so that he

would understand the priesthood and why he needs to be baptized into

our church because we have the priesthood and why he should attend our

church and all that stuff. It was a really good lesson and he said

that the would attend church with us not yesterday cause he has people

in town but the week after he would! So that was awesome! He is so

sweet!

We had a sweet lesson on Saturday! His name is Bob and he lives across

the street from a potential so we met him when we were looking for the

potential and he was so sweet! We walk into the lesson and he starts

off by saying "so i have some good news for you, i want to start

coming to church with you a week from tomorrow and I want a church

tour on Wednesday at 2. I hope you're not mad but i haven't finished

the whole Book of Mormon yet but I read Moroni 10 and all of Nephi.

I'm not sure I want to be baptized yet but maybe eventually...". It

was INSANE. Such a huge miracle and the member that was with us was in

shock haha. We taught him the Restoration and he accepts prophets and

wants the priesthood and everything. It was so good!

Sunday was really good as well! We had a couple member lessons lined

up to try and get to know some of the members in our ward. We seem to

be gaining the trust from the members, which has been super helpful!

It's been really good getting to know them, there are some amazing

people here!

I'm so grateful for all the miracles that we saw this week and I know

that I couldn't do this work on my own! I love this gospel and I love

being able to share it! I love and miss you all tons though!! I love

getting emails and pictures from you! Love and miss you lots!

Week 41: March 6, 2017: Christ is very aware of us and will lift us when we are down, even if its just through free ice cream.

Lo siento...I don't have a lot of time to write this week so I will
try to cram as much info as I can into this quick email but sorry that
its not going to be as lengthy as some of the other ones that I have
sent in the past.

This week was walk week and we had to drop a lot of
our investigators this week because they weren't keeping their
commitments so we had to do a lot of tracting but it wasn't bad! The
weather was pretty nice and we got to meet and talk to lots of people!
We were tracting at like 8pm on Wednesday and were just getting
rejection after rejection after rejection, which is not super fun and
we were starting to feel a little burnt out and tired, but then at
like 8:20 we felt prompted to go and knock on the door of this house
on the corner and this Spanish lady literally just let us right in and
after a while we were able to meet with her husband and daughter too.
They were SO SWEET! We asked her if she went to church and she said
that she wasn't but that she had been searching for a church for a
long time. She told us of an experience when she was younger where she
knew that God was real and that now he is a huge part in her life but
she hasn't found a church where she feels comfortable and wants to
stay at yet. She was so sweet and so open to our message so hopefully
it wont be too long until she realizes that our church is where its at
;) When her husband came up, he started telling us about him being
diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and basically being told that he
was going to die...but he LIVED! And he bore a powerful testimony on
prayer and that Christ knows each and every one of us personally. We
shared the Because of Him video that was put out by the church (which
I HIGHLY recommend watching) and they loved it! They have had a crazy
life of addictions and abuse and everything but they shared that they
were able to overcome all of it and have such a strong testimony now!
It was super cool! We are definitely going to keep working with them.

We were able to meet with a less active this week, who was super
sweet! When we went to her apartment, the front doors were locked but
we felt like we needed to be there so we just creepily waited outside
for like almost 10 minutes before a man came to open it for us and
then went up to her apartment. She was watching the bachelor, which
was SUPER tempting not to watch because it was literally just playing
in the background while we talked to her cause her TV wouldn't pause
or something and she couldn't find the remote to mute it...but we were
able to get to know her, share a message, and then she was at church
on Sunday! It was so awesome! She told us that because of health
issues, she couldn't sit that long but we walk into church and she is
sitting there waiting, it was a huge miracle!

Also, a random and very trivial miracle was that Thursday was a very
emotionally exhausting day because of Heidi's birthday and everything
but that night when we were syncing our schedules on areabook in
McDonalds, the worker just randomly decides to give me a free Oreo
McFlurry. It was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed every bite. I love
how thats such a small thing in the scheme of things but it shows that
Christ is very aware of us and will lift us when we are down, even if
its just through free ice cream.

We have another appointment with P this week so hopefully that will
go well! We are praying that he will accept the baptismal invitation
this week. He came to church last week and LOVED it. He couldn't stop
talking about how good the talks were and said that he wanted to come
back. He couldn't come yesterday but hopefully the spirit touched him
while he was at church and it will make a difference.

We haven't heard anything from S for a while so we are hoping that
he is doing well. We have tried to call him a couple times and have
gotten nothing in return. Although it didn't work out, I hope that he
is able to quit his addictions and take control of his body and
spirit. I hope that he will eventually have the capacity to accept and
fully live the teachings of the gospel and I know that he will be
blessed.

Well I guess that this email is turning out to be pretty long but it
was a good week and I hope that everything is going well at home! I
love and miss you all so very much and i think and pray for you often.

I am glad that everyone's health seems to be improving. I'm sure that
mom will do a great job speaking at the event in California this
week. I know that deep vein thrombosis can be a hard and emotional
subject but I know that shell do great!

I'm sure that Jason is disappointed about not getting into BYU but I
know that he will still have a great time and things will all work out no
matter which school he goes to.

I loved seeing all the pictures that dad sent of the
family and babies. I cant wait to finally meet them in person.
I love and miss you all so much! Have a great week!
We had dinner with a less active family in our ward and they
are crazy haha but they are so funny. They fed us ham on bread and a
giant blue birthday cake cause thats their favorite dessert. They said
that sister Davies looks like Miley Cyrus in little house on the
prairie.

Walked past McGuire's tavern and thought of you Kenz

I look so bad but this is our zone. Also, random fact: I dyed
my hair this week lol. We were in price chopper (aka the grocery store
for penny pinchers) and saw hair dye and started joking about doing it
(not serious AT ALL) and then somehow ended up buying some and sister
Davies did it that night. Still trying to figure out how I feel about
it lol. Maybe ill eventually send a picture where you can actually
